Huawei to Deploy Iraqi Kalimat's WLL Network
July 27, 2007
Iraqi Kalimat Telecom and Chinese Huawei signed a memorandum of understanding on July 23, whereby Huawei will help build Kalimat's nationwide WLL (Wireless Local Loop) network, in four phases starting in September 2007. The US$275 million contract involves deployment of CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) base stations as well as creation of an all-IP (Internet Protocol) infrastructure. Kalimat is a consortium led by Kuwaiti Trade Links Middle East and was awarded a ten-year license by Iraq's Communications and Media Commission to build a full-scale fixed wireless network, which will be based on CDMA2000 1x technology and is projected to include WiMAX as well.
